Clovelly Out of School Care Philosophy
At Clovelly Out of School Care (COOSC), we believe in the importance of play in childhood. It supports children’s development and builds the foundation for lifelong learning. At the heart of our philosophy are the values: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Respectful, guiding everything we do.
We see children as capable and active learners who contribute to their community. Our warm and engaging environment encourages safe exploration, independence, creativity, and confidence.
Middle childhood is a key time for forming friendships and learning social skills. At COOSC, children are supported to ‘be kind’, to themselves and others, through empathy, open communication, and inclusive practices . Additionally, we connect children with nature and encourage them to respect and care for the environment. Through sustainable practices, we help them feel a sense of responsibility and pride in their community.
Our educators model ‘be respectful’ behaviour, building strong relationships with children, families, and the wider community. Their knowledge and experience help guide thoughtful decisions about children’s wellbeing and learning. We reflect often to grow and improve our practice.
We help children understand and talk about their feelings, building emotional resilience and empathy. Families are important partners in this journey, working with us to create a strong support network for each child.
We celebrate different cultures, learning styles, and experiences. By nurturing curiosity and a love of learning, we support children to grow into confident, lifelong learners. Our commitment to overall well being includes promoting health through active play, nutritious snacks, and mindfulness.
We encourage children to ‘be safe’ by making safe choices, understanding safe behaviours and being safe with each other and in our environment.
We value open feedback and ongoing conversation so our service can grow with the needs of our community, always guided by our core values:
